One study at 30 months post-injury showed:

- with mild TBI, no children had ongoing deficits
- after moderate TBI, < 10% had residual functional problems
- following severe TBI, > 1/3 had significant impairments
|

Another study done 2 years after injury showed the data in the chart to the right. It should be noted that even after minor TBI, some patients have sequelae. These may be explained by evidence demonstrating significant changes in brain metabolism following relatively minor injury.

Most patients have a good physical and functional recovery after mild TBI, but many exhibit continuing difficulties that interfere with daily life. These residual deficits are potentially more challenging to a child than an adult.
