However she remained ill and was admitted to the hospital on day 14 of her illness, where she was put on Rocephin. On day 16 she developed lip drainage and conjunctivitis which was thought to be herpetic so Acyclovir was started. By day 18, she had developed a rash on her chest and back and was transferred to the burn unit. As the pictures show, she had about 95% of her body surface area involved. You can also see the characteristic ocular and mucus membrane involvement and the sheets of skin. In the pictures at the right, you can see she has lost nearly all of her epithelium and with that a lot of her pigmentation. The sheets have come off and are confluent in sites and these are the areas where we would apply Xeroform.
Her treatment included admission to the ICU, placement of a CVC, intubation, mechanical ventilation and transfusion with PRBCs and FFP.
