An extremely important design concept for the
Web is consistency. Remember, you aren't designing
a web page, but a web site! Polls show that 80% of viewers want a consistent look to all the pages on a web site. If your home page has a green background with your logo at the top left, but a sub-page has a red background and a different graphic at the top left, and a third page has a blue background with yet another top left graphic, the viewer will be confused. He'll check the address bar just to make sure he's still on your web site. And while he's confused, he's not reading your content.
Strive for a consistent look across all the pages of your site. This lecture is a good example. The background graphic, the major menu items on the left and the navigational controls at the bottom are the same on every page. No confusion here. Just start reading.
