The most common screen setting on the Web
is 800x600, followed by 1024x768. Less than 5% of
users have a resolution of 640x480. This means if you design your page to fit well and look good at a display resolution of 800x600 you will accommodate more than 95% of surfers. And your page will still look good on the computers with larger screen resolutions, although with more white space.
Vertical scrolling seems to be less of an issue with web users. But even here, the polls show that the majority of users will not scroll past 2 or 3 pages vertically. This means if you have a lot of content on a page, it is much better to break it up into 2 or more separate pages than to have one long page. Remember, even your mother won't read everything on your page, if it is too long!!
