HEADDSSS Interview

Education, Employment

Questions to ask about education include:

  • What school do you attend? where is it?
  • Is this a new school for you? - if so, they may have to start all over, which can be hard especially for a shy person
  • What are your grades like? - don't accept "fine", ask what their GPA is or what letter grades they are earning
  • Are you passing all of your classes? - if not, are you attending summer school
  • What are you most successful at? - is there any subject you are really good at
  • Are there any really tough subjects for you? - have you asked for help in these areas
  • Do you see yourself going to college? - do you see yourself finishing high school - if so, what do you see for your future, short and long term
  • Have you ever had to repeat a grade?

Questions to ask about employment include:

  • Do you have a job? where is it?
  • How do you get there?
  • How many hours per week do you work? - legally, adolescents can't work more than 20 hours per week
  • What is the latest time you have to be at work? - legally, they can't work after 10 pm; if they are there at midnight, "closing" the place, that's dangerous and it's illegal
